The Three Fundamental Layers
- Ambient (General): This is your base layer. It provides overall illumination for safety and movement, typically using recessed cans, flush mounts, or chandeliers.
- Task (Functional): Targeted light for specific activities. Think under-cabinet LEDs for cooking, swing–arm lamps for reading, or vanity lights for grooming.
- Accent (Decorative): Used to highlight specific features like artwork, plants, or textures. Track lightingand picture lights are common choices here.
